My sweet puppy is two! Ok technically he is two plus a week because his birthday was last Tuesday. Luckily for me, he doesn’t know that, so we were able to celebrate this weekend. Yes, I am a crazy dog lady who celebrates my dog’s birthday. No, I am not one of those crazy dog ladies who throws an all out birthday party for their dog….yet. Give me a few years and a not full time job and I just may turn the corner.
We celebrated Renly’s 2nd birthday the same way we celebrated his 1st, with a trip to the beach! The beach is one of Renly’s very favorite places. In order to qualify as one of Renly’s favorite’s a place needs only one thing….other dogs. People who will pet him are a close second. This means my dog loves the vet equally as much as he loves the dog park, and just about everywhere in between.
The rest of our weekend consisted of a birthday celebration for a friend and another for my father-in-law, a kayaking trip with Robert’s family (not Renly’s cup of tea) and the usual Sunday errands; stocking up at the grocery store, cleaning the house and doing the laundry. I don’t mind washing clothes (cleaning toilets is a different story) but boy do we seem to do a lot of it. For just two people, Robert and I average about three loads a week! I seem to recall doing laundry once every three weeks in college…I also rarely cleaned a toilet, oh the good old days. So how do two people make that many dirty linens? This may have something to do with it…..
No that isn’t the creature from the black lagoon, it is my dog. This photo was snapped at the dog park after Renly made great use of the mud puddle created by the broken water fountain. That was a fun bath. I’m convinced Renly is half pig as he can wallow in the mud/dirt/sand with the best of them. Weekly doggie baths are a necessity in this household and that fluffball goes through quite a few towels. Laundry mystery solved.
While washing this weeks load I was unpleasantly surprised to detect a funky odor coming from my washing machine. After a second opinion sniff from Robert and some serious googling I learned that your washing machine can in fact get dirty (who knew?!?). I also discovered an inexpensive, natural way to clean your machine that couldn’t possibly be any easier. Now that I know this simple trick you can be sure I’ll be cleaning my machine a few times a year. Now if I could just find a toilet cleaning trick this easy….
Cleaning your Washing Machine
You will need:
– 4 Cups White Vinegar
– 1 Cup Baking Soda
– Cleaning cloth/rag
1. Simply run an empty load on the hottest water setting and your longest load cycle. As the machine fills, add the vinegar and baking soda.
2. After it begins to agitate, pause the cycle by opening the lid and let sit for 30 minutes to an hour. This soaks all the grime off the walls of the machine. Close the lid and finish the cycle.
3. Once it has completed, use your rag to wipe down the inside lid and all the nooks and crannies of the machine. Leave the lid open to air dry. Voila! Clean washing machine and no more funky dog towel odors!
